Dancing At The Crossroads – Féile Ukulele 2015

Dancing At The Crossroads – Féile Ukulele 2015

We are delighted to tell you about our annual festival on Sunday May 31st in Castlebar, Dancing At The Crossroads – Féile Ukulele.  For the last 3 years years we had a hugely successful festival on the street.  This year we intend to host “Dancing At The Crossroads – Féile Ukulele” again in the same spot as last year and feel this will attract thousands to the town.  Linenhall St. and Tucker St. will be closed off from 2pm till midnight. The famous 7-piece ceili band, the All Star Ceili Band, will be our stars, as the headline act, along with local traditional music groups, dancers and singers to play also.  This year we are excited to have the recently crowned All Ireland Scór Na nÓg Champions, Glór Mhaigh Eo, on the bill. The well-known ukulele group from Dublin, The Flukey Ukes, will be headlining too. We have invited a group of U-12 musicians to take to the stage too in preparation for upcoming competitions.  Ruukulele.small.logo.2015nning alongside this on the street will be family entertainment (bouncy castles, clowns, face-painters, magician, carnival games etc) the same as last year. The 4&9s, Rolling Waves Sean Nós Ar An tSionann and world champions, Cresham Academy of Irish Dancing are all on the stage.  We have teamed up with our colleagues, Féile Ukulele this year to bring the ukuleles to Castlebar.  Well-known uke player, Sheilagh Fox is running the “Ukulele Train” from Dublin full of uke players to the town on Sat. May 30th.  These accomplished musicians will be hitting the streets of the town as well as “pop up” performances in Johnny’s and Mick Byrne’s. Sheilagh, along with her colleagues, Conor Rock and Ciaran Allen will be hosting workshops for beginners, intermediate and advanced at Lough Lannagh Holiday Village on Sunday May 31st.  Call the Chamber at 094 9025845 for details.

We are especially excited to announce that our “fear an tí” this year is the famous voice of Céilí House, Kieran Hanrahan.  Kieran is well known for his banjo playing and was one of the founder members of Stockton’s Wing.  If we are lucky, he might join the céilí band on the night for a tune or two!

Make sure to put the date in your diary for this fantastic family festival!!
