There are lots of great walking and cycling routes that you can take around Castlebar and you are on the doorstep to the start of the Great Western Greenway. 43km of off road walking and cycling, the longest of its kind in Ireland.

Castlebar has so much to offer walkers with many beautiful walks through its
unspoilt countryside. Since 1967 Castlebar has hosted an International walking
festival which attracts walkers from all over the world.
Mayo Adventure Experience is an outdoor activity company based in the heart of Castlebar at Lough Lannagh. The company offers a range of activities for all abilities, in and out of the water. Activities include team building, orienteering, canoeing and stand up paddling. Water based activities range from 1 hour taster sessions up to overnight expeditions; we will cater to your needs as requested. Orienteering courses and mapping are also being offered to schools and clubs around the county.
Castlebar Lough Lannagh Lake Town Walk
This is a must see walking trail dotted with wildlife. It is a great walk for children and is stroller friendly. Along the way you will come across a playground, an outdoor gym and you are sure to meet a few ducks.
Located just a stones throw from the centre of town. To circumnavigate Lough Lannagh lake is 1.9km. You can deviate to Lough Lannagh village along the route to enjoy a refreshing beverage.
Rehins Wood, Newport Road, Castlebar.
This a a semi natural, native woodland site located just 4km from Castlebar on the Newport Rd and is serviced by a path to its start.The walk around the woodland will take approx 25mins.
Rehins is a place steeped in history and its beautiful woodland has only been opened up to the community in recent months, The national forestry service -Coilte has opened a small network of paths through the wood, completed with helpful signage explaining the nature of what is growing all around you.
The path is accessible to all types of footwear and the terrain is suitable for buggies.There are a few steep sections which should be watched out for.

Castlebar Fit for Life meet every Mon at 7pm and Thurs at 8pm at the Car park beside Aldi. New people always welcome.
parkrun is a FREE weekly timed 5km recreational run. Meet every Saturday
morning at 9.30am from the Tennis club.
